DAVE PURPLE
Guitar/blues harp/vocals
Dave Purple has, in the main, successfully managed to dodge publicity and fame and avoided the paparazzi over the last 50 years! (God knows how old he is..?!?!)
Guitarist, vocalist and blues harp player Dave has been in various bands since the 1960s, some members of which went on to become part of the Blues/rock establishment, The Groundhogs and the John Dummer Band for example…
He has also Supported acts like The Kinks, Barclay James Harvest, Canned Heat, Quintessence and jammed with many bands like Colosseum, Keith Hartley & Alexis Korner. Whilst in a band from Stourbridge, Robert Plant, the legendary lead vocalist with Led Zeppelin, came and jammed with the band at a local venue.
Festival experience includes two appearances at the legendary Bristol Ashton Court festival, Stroud Outer Fringe, as well as appearances at the Confolens International Festival and the Cognac Blues Festival in France.
His current band, Dave Purple & the Hot Wires Hot Wires deliver a bluesy and rocky mix of originals and covers played with a gritty passion and an unashamed political stance.
“Dave is one of the finest exponents of simultaneous harp/guitar playing, he is weird though as he plays the harp upside down!” Kris Richards- a good friend and fellow musician
“Having myself played around the bars, clubs and festivals in the Landes region of France I can imagine this group of English rock musicians -- living in the Charente north of Bordeaux -- will have little problem getting many more gigs. The French like English musicians and it's easy to see why judging from this CD fronted by lead guitarist and vocalist Dave Purple. He's put together an album of original songs with a strong Doors/Cream/ Hendrix influence played with style and confidence. His group have played locally in the Charente and are on the verge of putting together a mini tour of Belgium and Germany. If this CD, 'Against the Grain,' is a good representation of their live act they should have a fair amount of success, especially in Germany where the club music scene is still comparatively vibrant” John Dummer – renowned drummer and leader of John Dummer’s Blues Band
ANDY MARTIN
Bass guitar/vocals
Andy recently moved to France from Kildare in Ireland and can trace his musical origins back to 1980 when he joined the Dublin based band, The Departure. Having contributed tracks to two compilation records that featured some of the newest Irish bands at the time Andy shortly thereafter moved to London with the promise of playing bass guitar with Sinéad O'Connor who had just signed to Chrysalis Records. This venture failed to materialise but instead Andy found himself working as touring personnel for diverse acts such Tom Jones, Buzzcocks and Shane MacGowan.
Having returned to Ireland in the late 90's Andy then began to work in IT but always maintained an interest in live music. At one point he was to be found playing guitar in a punk band called Snubbed as well as playing guitar but then reverting to his favoured instrument, the bass guitar, in a popular Dublin based Clash covers band called Complete Control.
Andy teamed up with Dave Purple in the summer of 2023 after the previous imcumbent, Dave Donachie, left to concentrate on other projects.
LAURENT QUEILLE
Drums
Laurent recently took on the difficult task of replacing long standing drummer Tim Bragg who left the band due to relocation. Laurent brings a wealth of experience having played in bands for a number of years.
